About the Redemptoris Mater Seminary

Currently, 18 seminarians of 3 rites and 10 nationalities are in formation. 21 presbyters have already been ordained: 3 Latin (Archdiocese of Khartoum, Diocese of Cosenza), 4 Coptic Catholics (Patriarchal Eparchy of Cairo), 8 Maronites (Eparchies of Beirut, Byblos, Egypt-Sudan and Brazil), 3 Syro-Catholics (Eparchy of Cairo), 2 Melkite Greek Catholics (Eparchies of Tyre and Sidon), 1 Armenian-Catholic (Exarchate of Latin America in Argentina).

The Redemptoris Mater seminary is legally represented in Lebanon by a non-profit association recognized by the Lebanese state, the Oum al Fadi Association. Its vocation is to promote the formation of young Christians, with particular attention to the ecumenical dimension. It is in charge of finding the necessary funds for the training of young seminarians and of promoting any action in favor of the goal it has set itself.

In doing so, the Oum al Fadi Association was able to establish an agreement with the Maronite Diocese of Beirut. A rental renewable contract for 27 years was established between the two parties, the first 27 years being free of charge, for the use of two buildings of the "waqf" belonging to the parish of Mar Mikhail, in Chiyah. These two buildings, located near the Church of Saint Michael in Chiyah, were the scene of fierce fighting during the Lebanese civil war, and still bear the traces of it. They are now located on the border between the Muslim and Christian quarters. The association has therefore decided to rehabilitate the buildings to make them its headquarters, as well as a training center that will host the Redemptoris Mater seminary.
